Rules of Conventional Print
When typing captions, remember to use the rules of conventional print. Most labels for classroom materials will use all lowercase letters. Labels or signs using proper nouns, such as children’s names or center names, should use upper and lower cases appropriately.

Paper and Media Options
You can print on any paper or other media that is compatible with your printer. If you choose to print on adhesive label sheets, you will need to use the full-sheet label size. We recommend Removable Full-Sheet Labels. They stick, stay, and remove cleanly.

Another time-saving, innovative product that we have had success with is Ink Jet Magnetic Sheets. These work with most models of ink jet printers. Simply print your labels on the full-page magnetic sheets, and cut them out. They are automatically ready to stick onto most metal surfaces such as magnetic marker boards. Remember to feed only one magnetic sheet at a time through the printer.

When using paper, select a bright white, heavy-weight paper or card stock for the best result. You can also use photo paper if it is compatible with your printer.

Color Reproduction and Print Quality
The color reproduction and print quality of your labels and signs depends primarily on the printer you are using. It is not unusual for there to be a difference between the color you see on screen and the color you see in the printed version. Feel free to experiment with different settings! You should set your printer to a high quality print setting and try different color settings to determine what produces the result you like best.

Cutting out Labels and Signs
Dotted lines print on the sheets to facilitate cutting out the labels and signs. You can also trim the labels inside the dotted lines to get a different size and scale.

Options for Applying and Displaying Labels and Signs
To attach material and name labels to surfaces such as containers, shelves, and cubbies, print them on label sheets, peel off the backing, and apply. You can print on permanent or removable label sheets depending on the intended use. We recommend using removable labels on containers and equipment. Permanent labels are great for use on paper.

You may choose to attach small adhesive-backed strips of magnetic tape to the backs of labels and signs and use a magnetic marker board as the support surface. Or attach small pieces of adhesive-backed Velcro® (hook side) or flannel and then use a flannel board as the support surface. To prepare the attachment strips, cut them slightly smaller than the width of the labels or signs.

To make schedules and charts, you may want to use a pocket chart to hold small labels or signs.

If it is not necessary to move or change the charts, you may choose to glue or paste the signs onto colored paper, poster board, or foam board. Large Center Signs may be placed in acrylic picture frames and hung as you would hang any other picture.

Options for Making Labels and Signs Sturdier
You can print and mount signs and labels on card stock to make them more durable. To create colorful borders and to enlarge scale, mount labels and signs on larger-sized colored card stock. You can also laminate signs and labels for wipe-clean durability.
